Planning a night out for live comedy

Desi Banks is an Atlanta-born comedian and actor who built a large following through short comedy videos online before moving onto theatre and arena stages. His 'The Purpose Chaser' tour ran into 2024, so any dates mentioned here belong to a past run rather than upcoming shows. For current appearances, the comedian's official channels and the venue's own box office are the only reliable sources. Third-party resale pages can look official but often add fees or list seats that may not exist.

Getting the most from a touring comedy show

Stand-up tours that sell out quickly tend to follow a familiar pattern. Presale codes are usually shared through the performer's mailing list or social accounts. General sale opens shortly after, and extra dates are sometimes added in cities where demand is high. A few habits make the experience smoother:

  • Buy from the venue or its authorised ticketing partner. Check the venue's website to confirm which seller it uses.
  • Read the policies before you go. Many comedy shows lock phones in pouches to protect new material, and age limits are common.
  • Plan transport early. Venues such as House of Blues locations sit in busy entertainment districts where parking fills up fast on show nights.

Bringing comedy home to the garden

Between tours, plenty of comedians release filmed specials. That makes stand-up a natural pick for a relaxed evening outdoors. Comedy suits a backyard screening well: it needs no complex plot to follow, and it works in shorter sets that fit around dinner. Clear dialogue matters more than cinematic sound here. Place speakers near the audience rather than beside a distant screen, and keep the volume considerate for neighbours.

If you are setting up for the first time, our guide to backyard cinema projectors covers brightness and placement. The notes on outdoor kit help you keep cables and power tidy on a patio. Add soft, low garden lighting along paths so guests can move around safely without washing out the picture.
